Origin of the hydronym Adour

The Adour River

Adour. A river flowing for 335 km in south-western France (Occitania and New Aquitaine regions) and flowing into the Bay of Biscay of the Atlantic Ocean.

The hydronym Adour is an ancient composite consisting of two components – Ad- + -our, which reflect substrate hydronymic terms found in the names of water bodies in different territories.
