Psel (Psyol). A river, left tributary of the Dnieper. It flows
for 717 km through Russia and Ukraine. Most of its course –
502 km – is in Ukraine.
The source of the river is on the border of Kursk and
Belgorod regions of Russia. Within Ukraine, the Psyol flows through the lands
of Sumy and Poltava regions.
The hydronym Psel is an ancient name-composite, consisting of two root components Ps + -el. The substrate hydronymic terms are realized in them.
